EAD™ Dry Scrubbing System
The Fives Enhanced All-Dry (EAD™) is a high efficiency dry scrubbing system using a technology that was developed by Fives in our pilot plant of Gardanne, France in 1985.
Since then, this proven technology has been successfully installed in various industrial plants including coal fired boilers, lime kilns, proppants kilns, brick kilns.
The EAD™ system is based on injection of the fresh hydrated lime reagent into Fives’ proprietary Venturi Reactor. Externally recycled reactivated solids, containing unreacted lime reagent, are also injected into the Venturi Reactor, wherein turbulent flow assures intimate contact between the reagent and acids in the gas stream, allowing the acids to be neutralized by chemical reaction.
In the Venturi Reactor, the moisture on the recycle material is evaporated from the reagent surfaces. This simultaneously does the following:
- Cools the flue gases to the ideal reaction temperature
- Lowers the reagent surface temperature, and
- Increases the humidity at the point of reaction
These three activities provide optimum conditions for increased reactivity of the reagent with SO2 and other acid gase
The second main component of the Fives EAD™ scrubbing system is the Fabric Filter particulate collector. For gas volumes larger than 120,000 scfm (200,000 m3/h) Fives supplies its proprietary TGT® low pressure pulse jet fabric filter.
After the reaction stage in the Venturi Reactor, gases and solids flow into the Fives pulse jet fabric filter, where agglomerated reagent and process dusts are separated from the flue gas.
Particulates are retained on the outside of the filter bags to form a cake. The filter cake provides secondary removal of acid gases, through their additional reaction with unused reagent in the cake.
The last main and key component of the Fives EAD™ scrubbing system is the proprietary Conditioning Drum.
The Conditioning Drum is an essential feature of the EAD™ Scrubbing Process. This proven equipment, developed from extensive testing, enhances the acid gas removal efficiency of the conventional All Dry Scrubbing Process.
This drum consists of a static shell and ribbon mixer rotor. Finely atomized water is progressively added to the recycle material in the drum. Intimate mixing of recycle ensures complete and even humidification of reagent particles. The rejuvenated particles create additional reaction sites for acid gas removal in the Venturi Reactor. Material flow rate and residence time are carefully controlled for the optimum reactivity capabilities of reagent in the Venturi Reactor.
