Umm Bab Line No.3, QNCC (Qatar)
- Plant capacity 4,000 tpd
- Contract date: July 2004
- First clinker in December 2006
Qatar National Cement Company has awarded Fives FCB with a second contract for the turnkey supply of its new production line at the Umm Bab cement plant, in Qatar.
This project follows the successful commissioning of Umm Bab line No.2 (2,000 tpd capacity) in 1997.
In July 2004, QNCC (Qatar National Cement Company), a 45%- state-owned company, awarded Fives FCB with a contract for the EPC supply of a new 4,000 tpd production line at its Umm Bab site, on the West coast of the Qatari peninsula.
Equipped with the Fives technologies, the Umm Bab line no.3 thus benefits from the advantages of its proprietary equipment such as the FCB B-mill, the third generation FCB TSV™ Classifier and the precalciner FCB Zero-NOx Preca.
Fives worked extremely quickly in fulfilling this contract: 20,000 tons of cement had already been produced by the end of 2005, after commissioning the cement grinding plant ahead of the schedule, to meet the huge demand on the Qatari market.
The other plants, including the clinker burning line, were commissioned at the end of 2006.
This new order has underscored the trust placed by QNCC in Fives’s capabilities as a turnkey contractor, the latter having already supplied and brought into service the complete 2,000 tpd Umm Bab no.2 plant, in 1998.
